Hello! We are thrilled about the number of upcoming weddings and events we have scheduled. One of the things we have learned over the years, as part of the industry of events and as wedding musicians in Los Cabos, is that every couple has a story to tell; getting to know it fills us with enthusiasm. That is why we like to share with you our memories and adventures, as we did with the wedding at the Waldorf Astoria hotel in Los Cabos.
Thanks to our experience and trajectory as wedding musicians at Cabo San Lucas today, we will help you choose the ideal music style for your big day. We have prepared a series of tips and information that can be useful for planning your wedding in Los Cabos.
Music genres for a wedding in Los Cabos
As we said, in this article we will talk about the different music genres you can find for your wedding in Cabo. In this way, you can get an idea of what your wedding will sound like and if it is what you are looking for.
Pop is the genre that dominates the charts since the 80s and 90s, but have you ever wondered why? The name pop derives from the term “popular music” because it integrates elements from other genres.
This style has always been well received by the majority of the population since it is located at the midpoint of global reference, regardless of one’s preferred musical genre.
Pop music is contagious, enjoyable, and very catchy. Its energy is ideal for every moment of a wedding, from the ceremony to the party. A good pop playlist will get your guests singing and dancing. It is a safe bet for every taste due to its variety of singers and subgenres within this style.
We, as Cabo wedding musicians, recommend that if you want to have a good time, search for musicians with a repertoire based on pop music, such as we do it in the violin and cello duo CaboStrings.
Rock is a music genre that originated in the late 50’s with Rock ‘n’ Roll. Songs such as Can’t Help Falling in Love by Elvis Presley are guaranteed success for your ceremony. These wedding songs have the power to have been consolidated in weddings for more than 70 years, and today they are perceived by the guests with a certain nostalgia and affection.
It is so sweet to hear Here Comes the Sun by the Beatles at the bridesmaids’ entrance, don’t you think? The oldest guests surely will be happy to hear their classic songs at the wedding. Some Beach Boys songs are also constantly played during the bride and groom’s “I do”. Their ballads are ideal as Los Cabos wedding songs.
It is important to know, this genre may be “heavy” for younger guests that are more familiarized with the modern music genres. We recommend sporadic and very particular rock music appearances for your wedding in Cabo San Lucas, all depending on the age of the majority of your guests.
3.- Classical music
Classical music can create unique moments during the ceremony. This style is always associated with cult music for thinkers, intellectuals, and aristocrats. Classical music has the power to give a touch of exclusivity and privilege.
Besides, Beethoven and Mozart’s magic can give your ceremony a different character from the one you have thought at the beginning. Who has not listened to Canon in D by Pachelbel during the bride’s entrance?
Most of this music composed over 300 years ago had the function of celebrating parties and weddings. It is a genre with unique chords and tones that no other genre has.
Stringed instruments such as violin, viola, and cello are the only ones that can give your ceremony an unmatched melodic richness.
However, not all Cabo wedding musicians know how to play it as it should be due to the difficulty of some musical pieces. In case you prefer this music genre for your ceremony, we highly recommend to choose professional Cabo wedding musicians, preferably somebody who studied in a Musical Professional Conservatory.
4.- Flamenco/Latin Music
Flamenco and Latin music are ideal music genres to create a specific atmosphere at your wedding. In this category, there are subgenres such as salsa, cumbia, samba, reggaeton, and boleros, among others.
While flamenco can be energetic and danceable, this music style can surprise most guests at a reception or cocktail party. Even more, if you add to the guitar chords a bailaor (dancer).
However it is not very common to find guests who are fans of this music genre at a wedding and we understand that eventually. It can get tiring or turn repetitive on some occasions and something similar happens with salsa, cumbia, and reggeaton. Hiring several salsa dancers to your party to cheer up your guests can add a fresh touch to your celebration. Although, depending on the precedence of your guests, excessive use of these music genres can not make everyone happy.
5.- Regional Music: El Mariachi
Mariachi is another fresh alternative to lead your guests from the ceremony to the cocktail. This music style will give your wedding a special, and regional touch. Recommended for everyone who loves Mexican culture.
You can use this music genre to add an emblematic touch to your celebration, especially if you go to Mexico to plan your wedding in Los Cabos.
El Mariachi is characterized by playing ranchero and traditional songs, such as “Bésame Mucho” or “Si nos Dejan” , classic Mexican wedding songs commonly played in Cabo weddings. Although it is a music style that surprises whoever listens to it, many songs are not so well known by foreigners.
We recommend that if you want to add this type of group to your wedding, select the ideal moments for it. There are those who prefer them to play during the end of the party or as part of the newlywed’s exit of the ceremony.
When arriving in Mexico, especially when you are planning a wedding in Los Cabos, you can use this type of musical genre to give an emblematic touch to your celebration.
6.- Electronic music
Last but not least, we want to add to this list electronic music, whose best-known subgenres are techno, house music, and the recently popular Tulum vibes. All of them are good options, if your Cabo wedding includes a large number of young guests.
We also need to highlight that it is commonly played at the after party, known in Los Cabos as “the crazy hour”; this part of the ceremony is done in a closed salon to recreate a disco atmosphere.
To accompany the DJ, you can include musical instruments; the electric violin and cello of CaboStrings create a striking and unexpected show. Furthermore, it is a unique combination with the LEDs that are used in this part of the party. At the end of the blog there is a preview of how your wedding can sound with CaboStrings.
